Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

WARNING: Do not smoke during the test. Keep open flames away from your work area. Be sure to relieve fuel pressure while engine is off.

1. Place a shop towel under the pressure regulator, then relieve fuel pressure.
a. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
b. Remove the fuel tank filler cap.
c. Use a box end wrench on the 6mm service bolt at the top of the fuel filter, while holding the special banjo bolt with another wrench.

Fuel System Service Bolt:

c. Place a rag or shop towel over the 6mm service bolt and SLOWLY loosen the 6mm service bolt one complete turn.
2. Remove maintenance access cover in the trunk.

Fuel Pump Assembly:

3. Disconnect the fuel lines and 2P connector.
4. Remove the fuel pump mounting nuts.
5. Remove the fuel pump from the fuel tank.
6. Reverse procedure to install, torque fuel pump mounting nuts to 4 lb-ft (6 Nm).
