Ignition Timing: Adjustments
SRS Main Harness Location:
CAUTION: All SRS electrical harnesses are covered with yellow insulation. Before disconnecting any part of the SRS wire harness, connect the short connectors. Replace the entire affected SRS harness assembly if it has an open circuit for damaged wiring.
1. Start the engine and allow it to warm up (cooling fan comes on).
Service Check Connector / Data Link Connector:
2. Connect the GRN/BLU and RED terminals of the service connector with SCS service connector.
3. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 ignition wire; while the engine idles, point the light toward the timing belt cover.
Timing Marks:
4. Adjust ignition timing to:
15° ±2° BTDC @ 700 ±50 rpm
(red line on crank pulley)
Adjusting Ignition Timing:
5. Adjust as necessary by loosening the distributor adjusting bolts, and turn the distributor housing counterclockwise to advance the timing or clockwise to retard timing.
6. Tighten the adjusting bolts and recheck the timing.
7. Remove the SCS service connector from the service connector.
