Fuel Pump: Testing and Inspection

WARNING: Do not smoke during the test. Keep open flame away from your work.

1. Check whether the fuel pump runs or not. Remove the Fuel Filler Cap, listen closely at the fuel filler port. You should be able to hear the Fuel Pump run for approx. 2 seconds after the ignition is turned ON. If you cannot hear the pump, proceed to step 2.
2. Remove the rear seat cushion.
3. Remove the maintenance cover.
4. Disconnect the 2P connector in the trunk.

CAUTION: Be sure to turn the ignition switch OFF before disconnecting the wires.

PGM-FI Main Relay:






5. Disconnect the Main Relay connector and connect the BLK/YEL wire and the YEL/GRN wire with a jumper wire.

Fuel Pump Access Panel:






6. Check that battery voltage is available at the Fuel Pump connector (2P) when the Ignition Switch is turned ON (positive probe to the YEL/GRN wire, negative probe to the BLK wire).
7. If battery voltage is available, replace the Fuel Pump.
8. If there is no voltage available, check the PGM-FI Main Relay and wire harness.
