Engine Control Module: Description and Operation
PURPOSEThe Engine Control Module (ECM) contains the micro-processor which is the "brain" of the Programmed Fuel Injection (PGM-FI) system.
OPERATION
The ECM sends "reference" signals to various sensors and recieves modified signals which indicate current engine operating parameters. The ECM matches these values to the values that are stored in ROM memory. It then controls various functions, such as Fuel Injector duration and Ignition timing, to keep the engine within established operating parameters.
