Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

System Description

The Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) is an air bag device. It is designed to protect the driver and front seat passenger during frontal impacts exceeding certain set limits when used in conjunction with seat belts.

The SRS is composed of the SRS unit (which includes safing and impact sensors), cable reel, and driver and front passenger air bags.

The SRS unit includes a self-diagnosis function. If there is a failure, the instrument panel SRS lamp will light.

A system check SRS lamp also lights when the ignition is first turned On. If the lamp goes off after approximately six seconds, the system is satisfactory. If the lamp remains on longer than six seconds or fails to light, a malfunction in the SRS is present.
