REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Carefully remove the front bumper. Refer to section 20 of the 1996-97 Civic Service Manual.

2. Remove the headlight housing from the vehicle.

[NEW]*
^ If the headlight trim is missing, go to step 4.

^ If the headlight trim is loose, go to step 3.*

3. Carefully remove the headlight trim from the headlight housing, then peel the double-sided tape from the trim. Clean the residue from the trim with 3M General Purpose Cleaner (see REQUIRED MATERIALS).

4. Protect the headlight lens with masking tape, then rough-up the area on the housing where the headlight trim was installed with Scotch Brite or 200-grit wet/dry sandpaper.

5. Clean the roughed-up area with 3M General Purpose Cleaner, and allow the area to dry.

[NEW]*
^ If installing a new headlight trim, go to step 8.

^ If reattaching the existing headlight trim, go to step 6.

6. Apply a thin bead of 3M Weatherstrip Adhesive (see REQUIRED MATERIALS) to the headlight housing and headlight trim.

7. When the adhesive becomes tacky, attach the trim to the housing. Make sure you align the step in the trim with the indentation on the housing. Go to step 9.

8. Remove the adhesive backing from the new headlight trim, then install the trim onto the headlight housing. Make sure you align the step in the trim with the indentation on the housing.*

9. Remove the masking tape from the headlight lens.

10. Reconnect the connectors to the headlight housing, then reinstall the housing, and loosely install the four mounting bolts.

11. Torque the four mounting bolts to 9 N.m (7 lb-ft) in sequence (1-4). If this sequence is not followed, the headlight housing may be damaged.

12. Reinstall the front bumper.
