Rattle From Rear of headliner (Supersedes 95-026, dated May 8, 1995)

SYMPTOM

A rattling noise is coming from the rear of the headliner, just above the rear window.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The rear window upper fasteners are rattling.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Remove the rear window upper fasteners.





1. Remove the trim piece along the top of the rear window.

(a) 1992 - 95: Carefully pull down the molding. [New]





(b) 1996: Pull the top of the rear pillar trim away from the rear window trim piece on both sides. Carefully pry off the trim piece (7 clips).





2. Gently pull down the edge of the headliner. Use a small screwdriver to remove the two rear window upper fasteners.

3. 1996: [New] Remove any rear window trim piece clips that stayed in the roof, and reattach them to the trim piece.

4. Reinstall the trim piece above the rear window. 1996: Reattach the tops of the rear pillar trim pieces.
