PROBLEM
The moon roof seal along the front edge of the glass sticks up after the moonroof has been tilted up in the back.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Elongate the mounting holes in the glass bracket.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Close the moonroof fully and open the sunshade.





2. Remove the bracket cover and the glass mounting nuts from both sides.

3. Note the location of the shims, then remove the moon roof glass.

4. Close the sunshade. Working from the outside, place a shop towel on top of the sunshade under the glass bracket.





5. Use a file to elongate the front mounting hole in the glass bracket by 1 mm.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 on the other glass bracket.

7. Apply touch-up paint to the bare metal (see REQUIRED MATERIALS).

8. Reinstall the shims and the moonroof glass. Tighten the mounting nuts to 9.8 N.m (7.2 lb-ft) while pushing the glass toward the rear of the car.

9. Reinstall the bracket covers.

10. Slide the moonroof back. Apply a silicone lubricant to the moon roof seal along the front edge. Massage the front of the seal to return it to its original shape.

11. Test the moonroof's operation. If the seal still contacts the roof, remove one shim from each side of the front of the moon roof.

NOTE:
If the seal is distorted and will not return to its original shape, replace the moon roof glass.
