Hatch Open Indicator Stays On

SYMPTOM

The hatch open indicator on the instrument panel stays on after the hatch is opened with the key and then closed.

PROBABLE CAUSE

^ The wire harness is not routed properly around the lock rod.

^ The striker is slightly out of adjustment, causing it to not always make positive contact with the switch for the indicator.

^ The latch is binding.

PARTS INFORMATION

Hatch latch assembly:

P/N 74801-S03-003, H/C 4848164

DIAGNOSIS

Check all cars, up to the affected VIN, at PDI. Open the hatch with the key, then close it with the minimum amount of force needed for the hatch to fully latch. Repeat this five times. If the hatch open indicator stays on at any time, proceed to CORRECTIVE ACTION.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Check the positioning of the wire harness and striker, reposition as necessary. If necessary, replace the latch assembly.

1. Remove the rear trim panel from the hatch.

2. Check the routing of the wire harness around the lock rod.

^ If the wire harness is routed properly, go to step 4.

^ If the wire harness is not routed properly, reroute it as shown.

3. Repeat the DIAGNOSIS procedure.

^ If the hatch open indicator now works properly, go to step 8

^ If the hatch open indicator still remains on, continue to step 4.

4. Remove the lower trim panel to expose the striker mounting bolts.

5. Check the position of the striker. There are three scribe marks on the body; the mark on the striker should be aligned with the center scribe mark.

^ If the striker is not aligned with the center scribe mark, go to step 6.

^ If the striker is aligned with the center scribe mark, go to step 7.

6. Adjust the striker. Repeat the DIAGNOSIS procedure.

^ If the hatch open indicator now works properly, go to step 8.

^ If the hatch open indicator still remains on, continue to step 7.

7. Replace the latch assembly with the new assembly listed under PARTS INFORMATION.

8. Reinstall all removed interior trim panels.
