CORRECTIVE ACTION

^ After VIN 1HGEJ....TL006386, shim the quarter glass opening with EPT Sealer, and reuse the rear window channel.

^ Thru VIN 1HGEJ....TL006386, replace the rear window channel, and shim the quarter glass opening with EPT Sealer.

1. To find which quarter glass needs repair, test drive the vehicle with an assistant along to listen for wind noise.

2. After the affected quarter glass is found, lower the rear window to the bottom of its travel, and remove the door panel as shown in section 20 of the 1996 Civic Service Manual.

3. Pry out the rear inner door grommet, and carefully peel back the rear side of the rain protector.

4. Pull back the door weatherstrip from over the quarter glass, then remove the rear channel screw.

5. Remove the two bolts from the rear channel.

6. Remove the rear channel from the door, leaving the window weatherstrip connected to the channel. This will cause the window weatherstrip to pull away from the rear corner of the window.

7. Remove the quarter glass by tilting its top edge forward and pulling it out from the door.

8. Cut a 20 x 80 mm piece of EPT Sealer 10T; and press it into the quarter glass tray inside the door frame.

9. Cut a 5 x 100 mm piece of EPT Sealer 5T, and press it into the corner of the window weatherstrip, between its two mold marks.

10. Reinstall the quarter glass by pressing its bottom edge into the tray, then push its top and rear edge into the door frame.

NOTE:
Do not pinch or twist the outer seal on the door sill when installing the quarter glass.

11. Place the rear channel against the front of the quarter glass, moving it up and back against the glass. While holding the channel, install the screw and bolts, but do not tighten them yet.

NOTE:
On vehicles through VIN 1HGEJ....TL006386, remove the rear channel from the window weatherstrip and use a new one. On vehicles with later VINs, reuse the old rear channel.

12. Carefully reinstall the window weatherstrip, using a flat tip screwdriver wrapped in a shop towel. After installing it, make sure the weatherstrip does not have any wrinkles in it.

NOTE:
Attaching the window weatherstrip in the corner of the rear channel and the door frame is difficult. Take your time to get it correctly positioned.

13. Tighten the rear channel screw, and reinstall the door weatherstrip over it.

14. Tighten the two rear channel bolts to 8 Nm (6 lb-ft).

15. Reinstall the rain protector and the door panel, then check the operation of the window, making sure the weatherstrip is secure.

16. Test drive the vehicle with an assistant listening for wind noise from the quarter glass.

Is wind noise still heard in the area?

Yes - The EPT may not be correctly positioned in the quarter glass tray and in the corner of the window weatherstrip. Remove the quarter glass, and check the position of the EPT.

No - Go to the next step.

17. If no wind noise was detected, spray water on the outside of the quarter glass to check for a leak.

Is there a leak?

Yes -The EPT may not be correctly positioned in the quarter glass tray and in the comer of the window weatherstrip. Remove the quarter glass, and check the position of the EPT

No - Finished.
