Without Scan Tool

Note: Although this model will flash codes on the Malfunction Indicator Light a Scantool is the preferred method for diagnosis. Honda service manuals for this model do not explain how to read the flashout, nor does it specifically address diagnosis via the MIL. Consequently, if you are able to read a code with the MIL the manual still does not address which specific diagnostic chart to use (i.e. flash code 63 has three different diagnostic charts assigned to it.) DTCs will be indicated by the blinking of the Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) with the SCS service connector connected.
Connect the SCS service connector to Service Check Connector as shown. (The 2P Service Check Connector is located under the dash on the passenger's side of the car.) Turn the ignition switch ON.
