Ignition Timing: Testing and Inspection
1. Start the engine. Hold the engine at 3,000 rpm with no load (A/T in [N] or [P] position) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.2. Pull out the service check connector located behind the glove box. Connect the GRN/BLU and RED terminals with the SCS service connector.
3. Check the idle speed (see Idle Speed Inspection).
4. Connect a timing light to the No. 1 ignition wire. Point the light toward the pointer on the timing belt cover.
5. If ignition timing differs from the specification below, refer Fuel and Emission.
Ignition Timing:
'96, '97 models:
15 ° ± 2° BTDC (RED) at 700 ± 50 rpm with shift lever in [N] or [P] and electrical systems turned off.
6. Remove the SCS service connector from the service check connector.
