Transmission Position Sensor/Switch: Service and Repair
WARNING: Make sure lifts, lacks, and safety stands are placed properly.1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands.
2. Set the parking brake, and block both rear wheels securely.
3. Shift to [N] position.
4. Remove the A/T gear position switch connector from the connector bracket, then disconnect the A/T gear position switch connector.
5. Remove the clamp from clamp bracket on the transmission housing, and remove the harness clamp from the right side cover.
6. Remove the A/T gear position switch cover, then remove the Air gear position switch from the right side cover.
7. Set the Air gear position switch to [N] position.
NOTE: The Air gear position switch clicks in [N] position.
8. Set the control shaft to [N] position.
9. Install the A/T gear position switch on the control shaft.
10. Install the A/T gear position switch cover and the harness clamp on the right side cover.
11. Clamp the harness on the harness bracket to the transmission housing.
12. Connect the AFT gear position switch connector, then install it on the connector bracket.
13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Move the shift lever through all gears, and check the A/T gear position switch synchronization with the A/T gear position indicator.
14. Start the engine. Move the shift lever through all gears, and verify the following:
- The engine will not start in any position, other than [N] or [P].
- The back-up lights come on when the shift lever is in [R] position.
