Repair Procedure A - Accord
1. Drain the engine coolant.2. Remove these components:
^ throttle body cover
^ intake manifold covers
^ intake manifold cover stay
3. Remove the three nuts and six bolts that attach the intake manifold to the injector bases. Do not remove the intake manifold.
4. Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the two vacuum hoses directly above it. Unplug the intake air temperature (IAT) sensor 2P connector.
5. Disconnect the PCV hose from the intake manifold chamber.
6. Remove the two nuts and two bolts that attach the throttle body to the intake manifold.
7. Lift the intake manifold, and pull it away from the throttle body. Once clear, remove the intake manifold, and set it aside.
8. Disconnect the two vacuum hoses from the intake air bypass control valve.
9. Unplug the front ignition coil 3P connectors, and lay the engine wire harness aside (toward the battery).
10. Disconnect the breather hose from the end of the front cylinder head cover.
11. Detach the engine wire harness from the water passage (one bolt) and from the top of the transmission (one bolt).
12. Remove the four nuts and two bolts that attach the water passage to the cylinder heads. Gently pull back the water passage, being careful not to pull the connecting pipe loose from the water pump, and remove and discard the front and rear gaskets and the O-ring.
13. Reinstall the water passage with the new front and rear gaskets and O-ring. Make sure the gasket surfaces are clean; do not use any sealer/sealant on the gaskets. Torque the bolts and nuts to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft). Make sure you tighten them evenly to ensure a proper seal.
14. Reattach the engine wire harness to the top of the transmission and to the water passage.
15. Reconnect the breather hose to the front cylinder head cover.
16. Plug in the front ignition coil 3P connectors.
17. Reconnect the vacuum hoses to the intake air bypass control valve.
18. Reinstall the intake manifold to the throttle body with the original gaskets; replace them only if they are damaged. Do not apply any sealer/sealant to the gaskets. Torque the nuts and bolts evenly to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft).
19. Reconnect the PCV hose to the intake manifold chamber.
20. Plug in the AT sensor 2P connector. Reconnect the brake booster vacuum hose and the two vacuum hoses above it.
21. Reinstall the intake manifold on the injector bases with the original gasket; replace the gasket only if it is damaged. Do not apply any sealer/sealant to the gasket. Torque the bolts and nuts to 22 Nm (16 lb-ft) sequentially in two or three increments.
22. Reinstall these components:
^ intake manifold cover stay
^ intake manifold covers
^ throttle body cover
23. Pour Honda All Season Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2 into the radiator up to the base of the filler neck.
24. Loosely install the radiator cap.
25. Start the engine, and let it run until it warms up (set the heater temperature control dial to maximum heat).
26. Turn off the engine, and check the level in the radiator. Add coolant if necessary.
27. Put the radiator cap on tightly, then run the engine again, and check for leaks.
