SYMPTOM

The MIL is on, and DTC P0128 (cooling system malfunction) is set.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Replace the ECM/PCM with the improved part.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Confirm the DTC with the PGM Tester.

* 2. Write down the audio system anti-theft code and the radio station presets.

3. Download the immobilizer codes from the ECM/PCM with the PGM Tester. Refer to "Rewriting a New ECM/PCM" in Service Bulletin 00-049, Immobilizer System (Type 2), filed under Body Electrical.

4. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery. *

5. Remove the ECM/PCM.





6. Write down the part number of the current ECM/PCM. The part number is on the label at the front of the ECM/PCM.

7. Match the part number you wrote down with the current ECM/PCM part number listed under PARTS INFORMATION, then get the correct replacement ECM/PCM.

8. Replace the ECM/PCM in the reverse order of removal.

* 9. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

10. Upload the immobilizer codes into the ECM/PCM with the PGM Tester. Refer to "Rewriting a New ECM/PCM" in Service Bulletin 00-049, Immobilizer System (Type 2), filed under Body Electrical.

11. Enter the radio anti-theft code and the radio station presets. Set the clock.*
