REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the passenger's side dashboard lower cover and kick panel.

2. Open the glove box. Remove the glove box stops.

3. Remove the two glove box mounting bolts, then remove the glove box.

4. Cut out the plastic cross brace at the bottom of the glove box opening. Discard the brace.

5. Remove the relay bracket from the glove box frame. Remove the frame.

6. Remove the electrical connectors from the ECM/ PCM. Remove the mounting bolt and nuts, then remove the ECM/PCM.

7. Look at the last three digits of the part number on the ECM/PCM to determine if it is a 49-state or California specification. If they begin with an A, it is a 49-state ECM/PCM. If they begin with an L, it is a California ECM/PCM. For example, 37820-PLM-A02 is a 49-state ECM.

8. Select the appropriate replacement ECM/PCM from PARTS INFORMATION. Get the 4-digit ECM/ PCM code from DCS. You will need it to initialize the immobilizer system.

9. Install the new ECM/PCM in the reverse order of removal.

10. Reinstall all removed parts.

11. Connect the PGM Tester to the 16P data link connector.

12. Insert the key into the ignition switch. Turn the ignition switch ON (II). Verify that the tester has software version SN121 or higher installed.

13. From the SYSTEM SELECT screen, select 5: IMMOBI.

14. From the TEST MODE MENU - IMM screen, select 5: SETUP

15. On the SETUP screen, verify that the clock and calendar values are correct. Then exit back to the TEST MODE MENU - IMM screen.

16. From the TEST MODE MENU - IMM screen, select 4: REPLACE ECM/PCM.

17. Follow the prompts on the PGM Tester screen to enter the ECM/PCM code you obtained from DCS, and to establish the link between the ECM/PCM and the immobilizer system transponder.

NOTE:
If you have any problems with this procedure, call the American Honda Special Tools Hotline at (800) 346-6327.

18. When finished, turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and disconnect the PGM Tester.

19. Make sure all accessories (A/C, fan, radio, lights, etc.) are off. Start the engine, and let it run until it reaches normal operating temperature (the cooling fans come on twice).

20. Once the engine reaches operating temperature, let it idle for 10 minutes to allow the ECM/PCM to perform idle learn.

21. Turn off the engine. Center-punch a completion mark above the second character of the engine compartment VIN.
