DTC P1163: A/F Sensor (Sensor 1) Slow Response-'00-01 M/T models

NOTE: If DTC P1162, P1168 and/or P1169 are stored at the same time as DTC P1163, troubleshoot those DTCs first, then recheck for DTC P1163.

1. Reset the ECM.
2. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm with transmission in neutral until the radiator fan comes on.
3. Test-drive at 40 - 55 mph (64 - 88 km/h) for about 2 minutes. Try to keep the engine speed between 1,500 to 2,500 rpm. Then decelerate for at least 3 seconds with the throttle completely closed.
4. Check the Temporary DTC with the scan tool.

Is Temporary DTC P1163 indicated?

YES - Replace the A/F sensor (Sensor 1).

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose wires at the A/F sensor and at the ECM.
