Creaking Noise From the Right Side of the Dashboard

SYMPTOM

A creaking noise comes from the right (passenger) side of the dashboard when driving over rough roads.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The upper cowl and the dashboard extension rub together.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Increase the clearance between the upper cowl and the dashboard extension.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the right side cowl cover.

2. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver between the upper cowl and the dashboard extension.





3. Pry the cowl up until it is 3 mm away from the dashboard extension.

4. Reinstall the right side cowl cover.

5. Test-drive the vehicle to make sure the noise is gone. If the noise is still there, use a Chassis EAR to pinpoint and repair the source of the noise. Refer to Service Bulletin 00-063, Steelman ChassisEAR Diagnostic Tool, listed under Tools.
