These tools are available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857.
1. Before removing the transmission, read the Service Precautions for the IMA System..
2. Turn the battery module switch OFF, and measure the voltage at the junction board terminals.
3. Shift the shift lever into the [N] position.
4. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset stations.
5. Remove the air cleaner housing and intake air duct.
6. Remove the engine cover.
7. Disconnect the battery negative terminal first, then disconnect the battery positive terminal.
8. Remove the battery hold-down bracket, then remove the battery and battery tray.
9. Remove the harness clamp from the battery base, then remove the battery base.
10. Remove the under-cover.
11. Remove the splash shield.
12. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the automatic transmission fluid (ATF). Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
13. Remove the air cleaner housing bracket (A).
14. Remove the starter cables, then remove the starter.
15. Disconnect the solenoid harness connector (A) and CVT drive pulley speed sensor connector (B), and remove the transmission ground cable (C).
16. Remove the ATF cooler hoses (A) from the ATF cooler lines (B). Turn the end of the ATF cooler hoses up to prevent ATF from flowing out, then plug the ATF cooler hoses and lines.
17. Check for any signs of leakage at the hose joints.
18. Remove the spring clip (A) and washers (B).
19. Remove the two bolts securing the shift cable bracket (C), then separate the shift cable (D) from the control lever (E). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
20. Disconnect the transmission range switch connector (A), CVT driven pulley speed sensor connector (B), CVT speed sensor connector (C), and CVT speed sensor (secondary) connector (D).
21. Remove the transmission housing mounting bolts.
22. Remove the six drive plate bolts at the opening of the starter while rotating the engine crankshaft pulley.
23. Attach the special tool to the threaded hole (A) in the cylinder head.
24. Install the engine hanger support bar and engine support hanger to the vehicle, and attach the hook (A) to the hanger adapter.
25. Disconnect the ATF cooler hose from the ATF cooler, then plug the end of the hose and cooler.
26. Disconnect the third H02S connector, and remove the sensor harness from its clamp.
27. Remove the exhaust pipe A and the three way catalytic converter as an assembly.
28. Insert a 5 mm Allen wrench (A) in the top of the ball joint pin (B), and remove the nut (C), then separate the stabilizer link (D) from the lower arm (E).
29. Remove the spring clips (F) and castle nuts (G), and separate the lower arms from the knuckles (H).
30. Remove the front mount bolt and nut.
31. Remove the rear mount bracket bolts.
32. Make the appropriate reference lines at positions A and B that line up with the center of the front subframe mounting bolt (C).
33. Attach the special tool to the front subframe with hanging the hook of the special tool over the front of the subframe, then tighten the special tool screw.
34. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the arms with the bolt holes on the corner of the jack base, then attach them with the bolt securely.
35. Remove the four front subframe bolts, then lower the subframe.
36. Pry the left driveshaft out of the differential.
37. Remove the driveshafts from the differential and intermediate shaft.
38. Remove the intermediate shaft cover (A) and the bracket (B).
39. Remove the intermediate shaft (C). Coat all precision finished surfaces with clean engine oil, then tie plastic bags over the driveshaft and intermediate shaft ends.
40. Place a jack under the transmission.
41. Remove the rear mount/bracket.
42. Lift the engine assembly with the engine support hanger, and raise the transmission just enough to take the weight off of the mounts.
43. Remove the transmission mount bracket.
44. Remove the transmission housing mounting bolts.
45. Slide the transmission away from the engine to remove it from the vehicle.
46. Remove the front mount.
47. Remove the flywheel assembly.
48. Inspect the drive plate (A) and flywheel support (B), and replace it if it is damaged.
49. When installing the drive plate and flywheel support on the motor rotor (C), align the 6 mm hole marked with arrow (D) on the drive plate and any 6 mm slot (E) of the flywheel support with the 6 mm roller (F) on the motor rotor, and secure them with the bolts.
NOTE:
^ The motor rotor contains very strong magnets and should be handled with special care.
^ Extra special care must be taken on the installation of the drive plate, it may suddenly be pulled toward the motor with great force causing serious hand or finger injury, or components damaged.
^ Keep pieces of metal and all foreign particles out of the motor rotor during the transmission removed.
^ Do not drop and bump the drive plate. Around the outside of the drive plate is a sensor for IMA system, replace the drive plate if it is damaged.
