Transmission Removal

Special Tools Required

^ Engine hanger, A & Reds ARR-T-12566*
^ Engine hanger adapter EQS00BRSX0*
^ Subframe adapter EQS02ACVC0*

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

1. Write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons. Disconnect the negative (-) cable first, then the positive (+) cable from the battery. Remove the battery.
2. Remove the air cleaner housing.





3. Remove the clip (A) and air cleaner housing bracket (B).





4. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector (A), then remove the ground cable (B).





5. Remove the throttle link cover.





6. Carefully remove the slave cylinder so as not to bend the clutch line. Do not operate the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder has been removed.





7. Remove the cable bracket (A), then disconnect the cables (B) from the top of the transmission housing. Carefully remove both cables and the bracket together so as not to bend the cables.
8. Remove the air cleaner housing bracket (C).





9. Disconnect the vehicle speed sensor connector (A) and neutral switch connector (B).





10. Disconnect the starter cable (A), then remove the starter (B).





11. Attach the special tool to the threaded hole in the cylinder head.





12. Install the engine support hanger to the vehicle, and attach the hook (A) to the special tool.





13. Remove the one upper transmission mounting bolt.





14. Remove the transmission mount bracket (A), transmission mounting bolts (B) and nuts (C).
15. Raise the vehicle, and make sure it is securely supported.





16. Remove the splash shield.
17. Drain the transmission fluid. Reinstall the drain bolt using a new washer.
18. Remove the driveshafts.
19. Remove the intermediate shaft.





20. Remove the three way catalytic converter.





21. Remove the three bolts securing the transmission rear mount.





22. Remove the front transmission mount bracket mounting bolt.





23. Support the subframe with the subframe adapter and a transmission jack.





24. Make reference marks (A) on the front suspension subframe (B) and mounting bolts (C), then remove the front suspension subframe.





25. Remove the front transmission mount.





26. Remove the rear transmission mount.





27. Place a transmission jack under the transmission, and remove the five lower transmission mounting bolts.
28. Pull the transmission away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate, then lower the transmission on the transmission jack.





29. Remove the boot (A), the release fork (B), and the release bearing (C) from the transmission (D).
