DTC P0780: Problem in Shift Control System
2004-2005 Model

NOTE: Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.

1. Check whether the D indicator indicates another code.
Does the D indicator indicate another code?
YES - Perform the troubleshooting flowchart by indicated code. Recheck for DTC P0780 after troubleshooting.
NO - Go to step 2.
2. Drain the ATF through a strainer. Inspect the ATF and strainer for metal debris or burnt fluid.
Has the ATF deteriorated?
YES - Replace the ATF, and test-drive the vehicle under the same conditions as those indicated by the freeze data, then recheck.
NO - Go to step 3.
3. Measure the stall speed RPM in the D position.
Is the stall speed over 3,500 rpm?
YES - Replace the transmission.
NO - If the stall speed is below 2,000 rpm, replace the lower valve body assembly. If the stall speed is 2,000 - 3,500 rpm, go to step 4.
4. Drive the vehicle at speeds 30 mph (50 km/h) constantly for several minutes.
5. Check the engine speed with respect to vehicle speed.
Is the engine speed within the specification?
YES - Replace the lower valve body assembly.
NO - Replace the transmission.
