MIL Comes On With DTC P0973

SYMPTOM

The MIL is on with DTC P0973 (short in shift solenoid valve A circuit).

PROBABLE CAUSE

Ferrous contamination on the contact area of the solenoid causes a short.

Replace shift solenoid A.

Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Replace shift solenoid A (blue wire in harness).

^ Refer to page 14-193 of the 2005-06 CR-V Service Manual, page 14-194 of the 2003-06 Accord Service Manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement. For CR-V, select Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement (A/T). For Accord, select Shift Solenoid Valve Replacement (L4 Engine, A/T) from the list.





NOTE:
Replace the solenoid cover gasket and the ATF cooler pipe sealing washers during installation.

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS, then test-drive the vehicle to ensure that the DTC does not recur.

3. Inspect for any automatic transmission fluid leaks related to the repair.
