Seat Belt: Service and Repair

Seat Belt Replacement

NOTE: Check the seat belts for damage, and replace them if necessary. Seat Belt

NOTE:
- Before disconnecting the negative cable from the battery, make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the radio's preset buttons.
- Disconnect the negative cable from the battery, and wait at least 3 minutes before beginning work.

1. Remove the middle floor panel, and remove the seat belt in the numbered sequence.
2. Install in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:




- Check that the retractor locking mechanism functions.
- Follow the Anchor Bolt Installation diagrams carefully when assembling the washers, collars, and bushings of the upper and lower anchor bolts.
- If the seat belt tensioner has been activated, replace the front seat belt protector with a new one.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the anchor bolts before reinstallation.
- Tighten the bolts by hand first, then tighten to specification with a torque wrench.
- Before installing the anchor bolts, make sure there are no twists or kinks in the seat belt.
- Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. If the IMA battery level gauge (BAT) displays no segments; remove the No. 15 EPS (40 A) fuse from the under-hood fuse/relay box, then start the engine, and hold it between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm without load (in Park or Neutral) until the BAT displays at least three segments. Reinstall the No. 15 EPS (40 A) fuse.
- Enter the anti-theft code for the radio, then enter the customer's radio station presets.
- Reset the clock.
- Do the ECM idle learn procedure.

Seat Belt Buckle
1. Remove the seat, and remove the center cover.

NOTE: To get to the seat belt switch connector on the driver's seat belt buckle, pull the seat cushion cover back by releasing the hooks.

2. Remove the seat belt buckle in the numbered sequence.







3. Install in the reverse order of removal, and note these items:

- Follow the Center Anchor Bolt Installation diagram carefully when assembling the washers and collar of the center anchor bolt.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the center anchor bolt before reinstallation.
- Tighten the bolt by hand first, then tighten to specification with a torque wrench.
- To prevent wrinkles in the seat cushion cover, stretch the material evenly over the pad.
- Apply liquid thread lock to the seat mounting bolts before reinstallation.
