A/C - Insufficient or No Cooling Ability

A/C System Does Not Cool Properly

SYMPTOM

The A/C system cools poorly or not at all (blows warm air), and the NC compressor may be unusually noisy.

PROBABLE CAUSE

Dessicant from a faulty receiver/dryer has leaked into the A/C system and turned into an abrasive contaminant. This contamination cannot be removed from the A/C system components or refrigerant lines with compressed air or other conventional methods.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace all of the parts listed in PARTS INFORMATION.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Parts and Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

DIAGNOSIS

1. Recover the refrigerant with a recovery/recycling/charging station.

2. Remove the NC condenser:

^ Refer to pages 21-46 and 21-47 of the 2003-2007 Accord V6 Service Manual Supplement, or

^ Online, enter keywords CONDENSER REPLACE, and select A/C Condenser Replacement (V6 engine) from the list.

3. Read the date code stamped into the top of the receiver/dryer. The date code is immediately after the part number (80351-SDA-A01).

^ If the date code is 2556, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.





^ If the date code is not 2556, this service bulletin does not apply. Reinstall the condenser, recharge the A/C system, and continue with normal troubleshooting procedures.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the A/C compressor:

^ Refer to pages 21-41 and 21-42 of the 2003-2007 Accord V6 Service Manual Supplement, or

^ Online, enter keywords COMPRESS REPLACE, and select A/C Compressor Replacement (V6 engine) from the list.

2. Remove the evaporator core with the expansion valve:

^ Refer to page 21-37 of the service manual, or

^ Online, enter keyword EVAPORATOR, and select A/C Evaporator Core Replacement (4-door V6 engine) from the list.

3. Install a new expansion valve on the new evaporator core. Apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil to the 0-rings on the evaporator inlet and outlet lines prior to installation.





4. Remove the receiver/dryer retainer bracket from the old condenser. Install a new receiver/dryer on the new condenser, and secure it with the old bracket. Apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil to the receiver/dryer 0-rings prior to installation.

5. Replace the specified A/C lines and hoses:

^ Refer to page 21-9 of the service manual for a routing diagram and torque specifications, or

^ Online, enter keywords A/C LINE and select A/C Line Replacement (V6 engine) from the list.

^ Apply a thin coat of refrigerant oil to the 0-rings on the line and hose fittings.

6. Install the evaporator, the condenser, and the compressor, then attach the lines and hoses.

7. Reinstall all removed body and interior parts.

8. Recharge the A/C system with a recovery/ recycling/charging station.

NOTE:
The new A/C compressor is filled at the factory with the correct amount of refrigerant oil. Do not put any additional oil into the system.

9. Test-drive the vehicle, and make sure that the NC system operates normally.
