DIAGNOSIS
1. Test-drive the vehicle under the same conditions as the customer described until you duplicate the noise.
2. Open the hood, and slide a long 1.5-mm feeler gauge or a similar thickness metal ruler between the left upper bulkhead and the left damper tower.
^ If you cannot insert the feeler gauge or ruler, if it's difficult to insert, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.
^ If the feeler gauge or ruler slides in easily, this bulletin does not apply. Check for other causes of the customer's complaint.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Insert a pry bar wrapped with a shop towel between the left upper bulkhead and the left damper tower.
2. Gently pry back and forth with the pry bar to obtain 1.5 mm clearance between the panels.
3. Test-drive the vehicle by accelerating and decelerating to make sure there is no creaking or popping. If you hear the noise, recheck the clearance between the left upper bulkhead and the left damper tower.
