DTC P2160: Problem in CVT Speed Sensor (Secondary) Circuit (No Signal Input)

General Description
The CVT speed sensor (secondary) is attached to the outside of the transmission housing. The CVT speed sensor (secondary) detects the number of revolutions of the secondary drive gear and sends a pulsing signal to the powertrain control module (PCM). The PCM converts the pulsing signal into a vehicle speed

If the input signal from the CVT speed sensor (secondary) is specified value or less when the vehicle speed detected by the CVT speed sensor is a specified value or more, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
When the vehicle speed measured by the CVT speed sensor is 9 mph (14 km/h) or more, and the vehicle speed detected by the CVT speed sensor (secondary) is 2 mph (2 km/h) or less for at least 10 seconds.

Driving Pattern
Start the engine, and drive the vehicle at a speed of 9 mph (14 km/h) or more for at least 30 seconds.

- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for illuminating the MIL
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and the DTC and the freeze frame data are stored in the PCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the MIL
The MIL will be cleared if the malfunction does not recur during three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs.

The MIL, the DTC, and the freeze frame data can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
