REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Start the engine, and eject the navigation DVD.
2. With the engine running, insert the applicable patch CD into the navigation DVD slot with its label side up, and close the door over the slot.
3. Allow the navigation system to download the patch CD. The navigation screen may go blank or display an error message before a Now Downloading message appears, then it changes to an updating software progress bar.
^ If the CD is downloading properly, go to step 9.
^ If the DVD Read Error message does not go away after 30 seconds, recheck the DVD version number in the above table. If the version number is correct, go to step 4.
NOTE:
^ Also check the patch CD for smudges, dirt, and scratches. Clean or replace the CD if needed.
^ Some vehicles may take longer to change to the progress bar.
4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and attach the SCS service connector to the navigation service connector located near the back of the navigation unit (see the applicable service manual for the specific location).
5. Start the engine, wait for the System Links menu to appear, then remove the SCS service connector.
6. From the System Links menu, select Return to go to the Diagnostic menu.
7. In the Diagnostic menu, select Version.
8. In the Version menu, select Download.
NOTE:
Do not press any other buttons as this may delete the customer's personal data or change the navigation system function.
9. After the CD finishes loading, one of four screens may appear:
^ An error message, DVD Disc reading error (incorrect DVD Disc), appears. Remove the patch CD, insert the original navigation DVD, then go to step 10.
^ The system reboots to the disclaimer screen. Remove the patch CD, insert the original navigation DVD, then go to step 10.
^ The navigation reboots to the disclaimer screen, but there is no OK button. Remove the patch CD, insert the original navigation DVD, then go to step 10.
^ The factory in-line diagnostic screen appears. To prevent the screen from showing up in the future, do this:
- Press and hold the MENU, MAP/GUIDE, and CANCEL buttons for about 5 seconds. The Select Diagnosis item screen appears.
- Press and hold the MAP/GUIDE button for 5-10 seconds. The in-line diag setting screen appears with an Incomplete and a Complete button.
- Select Complete, and then select the Return button (the system may reboot). Go to step 10.
NOTE:
The in-line diag screen shown above is an example only. The vehicle you are working on should look similar.
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then restart the engine:
^ If the navigation system boots up properly, go to step 11.
^ If the message DVD Disc reading error (incorrect DVD version) appears on screen, the incorrect patch CD may have been loaded, and it is not compatible with the original DVD:
- Eject the original DVD.
- Make sure the correct patch CD was used.
- Repeat steps 3 thru 10. If the message reappears, troubleshoot the navigation system using normal troubleshooting procedures.
11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), wait 30 seconds, then restart the engine.
12. Do the map matching procedure:
^ Make sure the navigation system displays a map, then drive the vehicle on a mapped road shown on the screen. Do not enter a destination.
^ When the name of the current road you are driving on appears at the bottom of the screen the procedure is complete.
13. The update is complete. Store the patch CD in its case, and return the vehicle to the customer.
