DTC P1297: Electrical Load Detector (ELD) Circuit Low Voltage

General Description
The electrical load detector (ELD) is built into the under-hood fuse/relay box. It monitors the current fed to the ignition switch and sends a signal to the engine control module (ECM)/powertrain control module (PCM). If the ELD output voltage is extremely low, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Monitor Execution, Sequence, Duration, DTC Type, OBD Status

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
The ELD output voltage is 0.27 V or less for at least 5.0 seconds.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for illuminating the MIL
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Temporary DTC is stored in the ECM/PCM memory. If the malfunction recurs during the next (second) drive cycle, the DTC and the freeze frame data are stored. The MIL does not come on.

Conditions for clearing the MIL
The DTC, the Temporary DTC, and the freeze frame data can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
