EPS DTC Troubleshooting: 23-04
DTC 23-04: F-CAN Bus-off Malfunction (Initial Diagnosis/Regular Diagnosis)
NOTE:
- Make sure the HDS communicates with the ECM/PCM and other vehicle systems. If it does not, go to DLC Circuit Troubleshooting. Testing and Inspection
- Check for any powertrain DTCs and troubleshoot those first.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then turn it to ON (II) again.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 23-04 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose terminals between ECM/PCM connector A (49P) and EPS control unit connector A (11P).
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Short the SCS line with the HDS.
7. Disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (49P).
8. Disconnect EPS control unit connector A (11P).
9. Check for continuity between EPS control unit connector A (11P) terminals and ECM/PCM connector A (49P) terminals (see table).
Is there continuity?
YES - Check for poor connections or loose terminals at EPS control unit connector A (11P) and ECM/PCM connector A (49P). If wires are OK, replace the EPS control unit.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM/PCM and the EPS control unit.
