EPS DTC Troubleshooting: 52-06

DTC 52-06: Torque Sensor (Offset) (Regular Diagnosis)

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.

3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

4. Start the engine.

5. Turn the steering wheel from lock to lock several times.

6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 52-06 indicated?
YES - Go to step 7.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the EPS control unit.


7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Disconnect EPS control unit connector B (16P).

9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

10. Measure the voltage between body ground and EPS control unit connector B (16P) terminal No. 2 and No. 4 individually.

Is there battery voltage?
YES - Repair short to power in the wire harness between the EPS control unit and the torque sensor.

NO - Go to step 11.






11. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

12. Check for continuity between body ground and EPS control unit connector B (16P) terminal No. 2 and No. 4 individually.

Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to body ground in the wire harness between the EPS control unit and the torque sensor.

NO - Go to step 13.






13. Disconnect the torque sensor 6P connector from the torque sensor on the steering gearbox.

14. Check for continuity between torque sensor 6P connector terminal No. 4 and EPS control unit connector B (16P) terminal No. 2.

Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 15.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the torque sensor.






15. Check for continuity between torque sensor 6P connector terminal No. 1 and EPS control unit connector B (16P) terminal No. 4.

Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 16.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the EPS control unit and the torque sensor.






16. Substitute a known-good EPS control unit. Service and Repair

17. Connect the torque sensor 6P connector.

18. Start the engine.

19. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 52-06 indicated?
YES - The fault is an open or short in the torque sensor internal circuit. Replace the steering gearbox. Steering Gearbox Removal and Installation

NO - Replace the original EPS control unit. Service and Repair
