SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 86-1x, 86-2x (x can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F)

DTC 86-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Faulty OPDS Seat-Back Sensor

DTC 86-2x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F): Faulty OPDS Seat Support Sensor

NOTE: Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Technician Safety Information and General Troubleshooting Information. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

1. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

2. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.


3. Check the connection at the front passenger's seat wire harness 18P connector (A) and sensor connectors (B).

Are the connections OK?
YES - Go to step 4.

NO - Repair the poor connection, and clear the DTC.






4. Replace the OPDS sensor/front passenger's seat-back cover/pad. Front Seat-Back Cover/Pad Replacement

5. Initialize the ODS unit. Programming and Relearning

6. Clear the DTC memory. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

7. Read the DTC. Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview

Is DTC 86-1x or 86-2x indicated?
YES - Replace the ODS unit, ODS Unit Replacement then clear the DTC. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit. SRS Unit Replacement

NO - The system is OK.
