DTC P0602: Engine Control Module (ECM) Programming Error







General Description
The engine control module (ECM) is equipped with an update program to update its control program. The programs in the CPU of the ECM are classified as a ECM program (update-capable program) and a program for the update function (non-updatable program). The program update only updates the ECM program. When the ECM power is turned off during an update, the power for the update function is lost, and the update process stops. When the program update is stopped before it is completed, the ECM stores a DTC that indicates the update is not finished.

The ECM program update stops 1 second before it is finished.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for illuminating the MIL
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and the DTC and the freeze frame data are stored in the ECM memory.

Conditions for clearing the MIL
The MIL will be cleared if the malfunction does not recur during three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the DTC, and the freeze frame data can be cleared by using the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
