Glove Box Rattles or Is Misaligned

SYMPTOM

The glove box rattles, is out of alignment, and is difficult to adjust properly.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The dashboard has warped, causing the glove box striker to move.

Replace the glove box striker.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Open the glove box.





2. Disconnect the glove box damper from the pivot on the glove box.

3. Close the glove box.





4. Remove the bolts.





5. While holding the glove box, release the glove box stops by pushing them in, then remove the glove box.





6. Remove the screws, then remove the glove box striker.

7. Install the new glove box striker.

8. Reinstall the glove box, and torque the bolts to 5 N.m (41b-ft).

9. Reconnect the glove box damper to the pivot on the glove box.

10. Make sure the glove box opens and closes normally.

NOTE:
The glove box may feel tighter when closing, but this feeling should subside after it has been opened and closed a few times.
