Fuel Fill Door Does Not Open

SYMPTOM

When the fuel fill door is pressed, it does not open.


PROBABLE CAUSE

The release latch in the fuel fill door lifter does not disengage.


CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the fuel fill door push lifter.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - FIT





1. Remove the clips, then remove the fuel pipe protector.





2. Remove the fuel fill cap, then remove the fuel fill cap retainer strap from the hinge arm. Remove the screw from the fuel fill door/adapter.





3. Remove the bolts, then lower the fuel fill pipe.





4. Pull the fuel fill door/adapter lip off the fuel fill pipe.





5. Hold the fuel fill door partially open, and pull it out while rotating it 90 degrees clockwise. Remove the fuel fill door/adapter.





6. Pull the fuel fill door/adapter hinge out through the body.

7. Release the hooks, then remove the fuel fill door push lifter from the fuel fill door/adapter.

8. Install the new push lifter. Reinstall the fuel fill door/adapter, the lower fuel fill pipe, the fuel fill cap, and the fuel pipe protector.

REPAIR PROCEDURE - INSIGHT





1. Remove the fuel fill cap, then remove the screw from the fuel fill door/adapter.





2. Pull the fuel fill door/adapter lip off the fuel fill pipe.





3. With the fuel fill door partially open, pull out the upper half of the fuel fill door/adapter and turn it 90 degrees counterclockwise. Remove the fuel fill door/adapter.





4. Pull the fuel fill door/adapter hinge out of the body.

5. Release the hooks, then remove the fuel fill door push lifter from the fuel fill door/adapter.

6. Install the new push lifter, then reinstall the fuel fill door/adapter and the fuel fill cap.
