Manual Transmission Installation
Special Tools Required
- 1.8 Support Eyelet 07AAK-SNAA400
- 1.8 Support Bolt 07AAK-SNAA500
- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256
- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016
- 2006 Civic Engine Hanger VSB02C000025
*: Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857.
NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. Loosen the upper torque rod mounting bolt (A).
2. Make sure the two dowel pins (A) are installed in the clutch housing.
3. Check the release bearing, and reinstall the release bearing and the release fork with appropriate grease.
4. Place the transmission on the transmission jack, and raise it to the engine level.
5. Align the transmission mainshaft and the clutch pressure plate, then move the transmission inward until there is no clearance between the transmission housing and the engine block.
6. Install the lower transmission mounting bolts.

7. Install the clutch cover (A).
8. Install the intermediate shaft Intermediate Shaft Installation.
9. Install both driveshafts Driveshaft Installation.
10. Remove the transmission jack.
11. Support the front subframe with the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack.
12. Install the front subframe (A). Loosely install new subframe mounting bolts (B).
13. Align the front subframe reference marks (A) to the body (B), as noted during removal. Tighten the front subframe mounting bolts to the specified torque.
14. Position the steering gearbox on the front subframe.
15. Install new lower torque rod mounting bolts (A).
16. Install new mid-stiffener mounting bolts (A).
17. Hydraulic power steering model: Install the stiffener plates (A) and the mounting bracket (B). Tighten the mounting bolts loosely.
18. Hydraulic power steering model: Install the steering line brackets (A), and install the steering line to the clip (B).
19. EPS model: Install the stiffener plate (A). Tighten the gearbox mounting bolts loosely. Secure the harness clamp bracket (B) with the bolt.
20. EPS model: Install the stiffener plate (A). Tighten the mounting bolts loosely.
21. EPS model: Install the steering gearbox mounting bracket (A). Tighten the mounting bolts loosely.
22. Tighten the steering gearbox mounting bolts and the stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.
23. EPS model: Secure the harness clamp bracket with the bolt.
24. Connect the lower ball joint and the lower arm.
25. Lower the vehicle.
26. Install the transmission mounting bracket base (A) and the stud bolts (B).
27. Install the transmission mounting bracket base bolts (A). Install the transmission mounting bolt (B) and nuts (C), then install the ground cable (D).
28. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.
29. Loosen and retighten the lower torque rod mounting bolt (A).
30. Refill the transmission with MTF to the proper level MTF Inspection And Replacement (5MT).
31. Install the splash shield.
32. Lower the vehicle.
33. Tighten the upper torque rod mounting bolt (A).
34. Install the upper transmission mounting bolts.
35. Remove the A and Reds engine support hanger and the 1.8 support eyelet (A) from the engine.
36. Install the air cleaner housing bracket (B) on the cylinder head.
37. Connect the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (A).
38. Apply a light coat of silicone grease (P/N 08C30-B0234M) to the shift cable ends (A).
NOTE: Make sure not to get any silicone grease on the terminal part of the connectors and switches, especially if you have silicone grease on your hands or gloves.
'06 model
'07-11 models
39. Install the shift cable bracket (B) and the shift cables (C), then install new cotter pins (D) or the lock pins (E).
40. Connect the back-up light switch connector (A), then install the engine wire harness cover (B) and the harness clips (C).
41. Apply a light coat of super high temp urea grease (P/N 08798-9002) to the end of the slave cylinder pushrod. Install the slave cylinder (A), then install the clutch line bracket (B). Be careful not to bend the clutch line.
42. Install the battery base (A) with the coolant reservoir (B).
43. Install the harness clips (C) and the intake air duct (D).
44. Install the air cleaner assembly Service and Repair.
45. Do the battery installation procedure Removal and Replacement.
46. Install the under-cowl panel and the cowl cover Service and Repair.
47. Check the shift lever and the clutch operation.
48. Check the wheel alignment Service and Repair.
49. Test-drive the vehicle.
