SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 44-1x, 46-1x
DTC 44-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (first)
DTC 46-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):
No Signal From the Right Side Impact Sensor (second)
NOTE:
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.
1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
3. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 46-1x (except 46-11) indicated?
YES -
Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Go to step 4.
4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
6. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 44-1x (except 44-11) indicated?
YES -
Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.
NO -
Go to step 7.
7. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
9. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 46-11 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 13.
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
11. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
12. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 44-11 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 40.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
13. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
14. Check for these connector connections:
- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
Are the connections OK?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
15. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
16. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.
17. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
19. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 46-11 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 20.
NO -
Faulty right side impact sensor (second); replace the right side impact sensor (second) Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement, then clear the DTC.
20. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
21. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
22. Reinstall the impact sensor (second) that was substituted in step 15.
23. Exchange the right side impact sensor (first) for the impact sensor prepared in step 22.
24. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.
25. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
26. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
27. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 46-11 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 28.
NO -
Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.
28. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
29. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
30. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
31. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
32. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
33. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
YES -
Go to step 34.
NO -
Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
34. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
YES -
Go to step 35.
NO -
Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
35. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.
36. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
37. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 1 and No. 2 individually.
Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES -
Go to step 38.
NO -
Short to power in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
38. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
39. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 1 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 2, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 4 and right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 1.
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness between the right side impact sensor (first) and the right side impact sensor (second); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
40. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
41. Check for these connector connections:
- SRS unit connector B (39P) and the SRS unit.
- Right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
- Right side impact sensor (second) 2P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (Second) Replacement.
Are the connections OK?
YES -
Go to step 42.
NO -
Replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
42. Substitute a known-good right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
43. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.
44. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
45. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
46. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 44-11 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 47.
NO -
Faulty right side impact sensor (first); replace the right side impact sensor (first) Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement, then clear the DTC.
47. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
48. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.
49. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.
50. Disconnect the right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness Side Impact Sensor (First) Replacement.
51. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
YES -
Go to step 52.
NO -
Short to another wire in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
52. Measure the resistance between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
YES -
Go to step 53.
NO -
Short to ground in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
53. Reconnect the negative cable to the 12 volt battery.
54. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
55. Measure the voltage between body ground and right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminals No. 2 and No. 3 individually.
Is there less than 0.2 V?
YES -
Go to step 56.
NO -
Short to power in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
56. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
57. Measure the resistance between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 2 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 11, and between right side impact sensor (first) 4P connector on the floor wire harness terminal No. 3 and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 10.
Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?
YES -
Disconnect and reconnect the connector, and then check DTC again. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.
NO -
Open in the floor wire harness between the SRS unit and the right side impact sensor (first); replace the floor wire harness, then clear the DTC.
