SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 71-1x

DTC 71-1x ("x" can be 0 thru 9 or A thru F):

Open in the Driver's Seat Position Sensor

NOTE:

- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
- Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair, General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes, and 12 Volt Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection Procedures.
- Before replacing the SRS unit, check the SRS unit software version with the HDS. If the software version is not the latest, update the SRS unit software Testing and Inspection, and retest.

1. Raise the driver's seat all the way up, and position all the way rearward.

2. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.

3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.

4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC 71-1x indicated?

YES -

Go to step 5.

NO -

Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.

5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

6. Check for these connector connections:

- Driver's seat position sensor 2P connector on the driver's seat position sensor subharness 2P connector Service and Repair.
- Driver's seat position sensor subharness 2P connector on the floor wire harness Service and Repair.
- G602 Floor Wire Harness.

Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

Repair the poor connections, then clear the DTC, and retest. If DTC 71-1x is still present, go to step 7.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait for 10 seconds.

8. Remove the outer recline cover Seat Recline Cover Removal / Installation.

9. Disconnect the driver's seat position sensor 2P connector (A) on the driver's seat position sensor subharness.






10. Install a jumper wire between the driver's seat position sensor 2P connector on the driver's seat position sensor subharness terminals No. 1 and No. 2.






11. Disconnect the negative cable from the 12 volt battery, then wait at least 3 minutes.

12. Disconnect SRS unit connector B (39P) from the SRS unit.

13. Measure the resistance between body ground and SRS unit connector B (39P) terminal No. 2.





Is there less than 1.0 Ohms?

YES -

Faulty driver's seat position sensor or SRS unit; replace the driver's seat position sensor Service and Repair, then clear the DTC, and retest. If the DTC is still present, replace the SRS unit Service and Repair.

NO -

Open in the floor wire harness or the driver's seat position sensor subharness; replace the faulty harness, then clear the DTC.
