Control System DTCs

DTC Troubleshooting: B1281, B1282, B1283, B1284

DTC B1281 : Front Wiper MIST Position Circuit Malfunction
DTC B1282 : Front Wiper INT (AUTO) Position Circuit Malfunction
DTC B1283 : Front Wiper LOW Position Circuit Malfunction
DTC B1284 : Front Wiper HIGH Position Circuit Malfunction

NOTE: Refer to the Electrical Wiring Diagrams for the location of the under-dash fuse/relay box connectors.

1. Wiper/washers system check:

Wiper/washers system check
-1. Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, and enter the DATA LIST.

-2. Turn the windshield wiper switch to the OFF position.

-3. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.





Are all data list values correct?
-YES- Go to step 4.
-NO- Go to step 2.

2. Determine possible failure area (windshield wiper/washer switch, others):

Determine possible failure area (windshield wiper/washer switch, others)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Disconnect the following connector.





-3. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.

Has the data list value changed from ON to OFF?
-YES- Replace the windshield wiper/washer switch.
-NO- Go to step 3.

3. Shorted wire check (FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_MIST_SW lines):

Shorted wire check (FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_MIST_SW lines)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Disconnect the following connector.





-3. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2 individually.


















Is there continuity?
-YES- Repair a short to ground in the wire.
-NO- Faulty MICU; replace the under-dash fuse/relay box Service and Repair.

4. Shorted wire check (FR_WIPER_MIST_SW to FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW to FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_MIST_SW to FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW lines):

Shorted wire check (FR_WIPER_MIST_SW to FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_HI&LO_SW to FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW, FR_WIPER_MIST_SW to FR_WIPER_INT&LO_SW lines)
-1. Select WIPER from the BODY ELECTRICAL SYSTEM SELECT menu, and enter the DATA LIST.

-2. Check each windshield wiper switch position value with the DATA LIST menu.






















Are all data list values correct?
-YES- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for loose or poor connections.
-NO- Repair a short between the wires.
