SRS DTC Troubleshooting: 83-24
DTC 83-24 : No Signal From the Front Passenger's Weight Sensor (front outer side)
NOTE:
* Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, find out if the vehicle was in a collision. If so, verify that all the required components were replaced with new components, of the correct part number, and that they were properly installed Service and Repair.
* Before doing this troubleshooting procedure, review SRS Precautions and Procedures Service and Repair and General Troubleshooting Information Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
* These SWS DTCs are cleared when you turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
1. Problem verification:
Problem verification
-1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
-2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
-3. Check for DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
Is DTC 83-24 indicated?
-YES- The failure is duplicated. Go to step 2.
-NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes. If another DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the DTC.
2. SWS DTC check:
SWS DTC check
-1. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is an SWS DTC also indicated?
-SWS DTC 24-11- Short to power in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) power circuit; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
-SWS DTC 24-12- Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) power circuit. Go to step 3.
-SWS DTC 24-13- Open in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) output circuit. Go to step 6.
-SWS DTC 24-14- Short to ground in the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) output circuit. Go to step 8.
3. Front passenger's weight sensor check:
Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
-5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-12 indicated?
-YES- Go to step 4.
-NO- Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
4. Shorted wire check (WS3P line):
Shorted wire check (WS3P line)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Service and Repair.
-3. Remove the cover (A), then detach the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
-YES- Go to step 5.
-NO- Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
5. Shorted wire check (WS3P line to WS3G line):
Shorted wire check (WS3P line to WS3G line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
-YES- Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
-NO- Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
6. Front passenger's weight sensor check:
Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Swap the connections between the front outer side front passenger's weight sensor and the rear outer side sensor.
-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
-5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-13indicated?
-YES- Go to step 7.
-NO- Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
7. Shorted wire check (WS3O line to power):
Shorted wire check (WS3O line to power)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness and the front passenger's weight sensor (rear outer side) 3P connector (B) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-3. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Service and Repair.
-4. Remove the cover (A), then detach the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. Measure the voltage between test points 1 and 2.
Is there less than 0.2 V?
-YES- Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
-NO- Short to power in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
8. Front passenger's weight sensor check:
Front passenger's weight sensor check
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Disconnect the front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side) 3P connector (A) on the front passenger's seat wire harness.
-3. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
-4. Clear the DTCs with the HDS Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes.
-5. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then wait for 10 seconds.
-6. From the HDS Main Menu, select SRS, then Inspection. In the Inspection Menu, select SWS DTC CHECK.
Is SWS DTC 24-14 indicated?
-YES- Go to step 9.
-NO- Faulty front passenger's weight sensor (front outer side); replace the front passenger's seat rail including all four front passenger's weight sensors Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
9. Shorted wire check (WS3O line):
Shorted wire check (WS3O line)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
-2. Turn over the seat-back cover/pad to gain access to the ODS unit Service and Repair.
-3. Remove the cover (A), then detach the clip (B), then disconnect the ODS unit 18P connector (C) from the ODS unit.
-4. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
-YES- Go to step 10.
-NO- Short to ground in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
10. Shorted wire check (WS3O line to WS3G line):
Shorted wire check (WS3O line to WS3G line)
-1. Measure the resistance between test points 1 and 2.
Is there an open circuit, or at least 1 MOhms?
-YES- Faulty ODS unit; replace the ODS unit Service and Repair, then clear the DTC.
-NO- Short to another wire in the front passenger's seat wire harness; replace the front passenger's seat wire harness, then clear the DTC.
