Service Information
Engine Removal and Installation
31. Cylinder Block Coolant - Drain
1. Remove the drain bolt (A) from the rear side of the engine block.
2. After the coolant has drained, reinstall the drain bolt with a new washer (B).
3. Tighten the radiator drain plug securely.
32. CVTF - Drain
1. Remove the drain plug (A), and drain the CVT fluid (CVTF).
2. Remove metal particles from the magnetic surface of the drain plug.
3. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer (B).
33. Engine Oil - Refill
1. Remove the drain bolt (A), and drain the engine oil.
2. Reinstall the drain bolt with a new washer (B) and torque to specification.
34. Lower The Vehicle On The Lift
1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
35. Engine Peripheral Assembly
1. Disconnect the connectors.
2. Remove the clamp on the left side of the engine compartment.
3. Remove the IMA motor power cable clamps (A) and the cover (B).
4. Disconnect the the cable.
5. Slide the protector (A) in the direction of the arrow. Push the tab (B), then raise the lever (C). Disconnect the cable.
NOTE:
* If the outside of the IMA motor power cable connector is dirty, clean it before you disconnect it.
* Cover the disconnected connector (D) with a plastic bag (E), and wrap the IMA motor power cable terminals with insulating tape (F).
* If the IMA motor power cable is wet, dry them with a clean shop towel. Do not use compressed air.
6. Remove the IMA motor power cable clamps (A)
7. Disconnect the cable and the connector.
8. Remove the IMA motor power cable holder (A)
36. Shift Cable Disconnection - Transmission Side
1. Remove the air cleaner bracket (A).
2. Remove the lock pin (B) and the control pin (C) from the selector control lever (D).
3. Remove the harness clamp (E).
4. Remove the shift cable (F).
5. Check the shift cable end collar (G) for wear or damage, and replace the shift cable if necessary.
37. Radiator Mounting Bracket
1. Remove the radiator mount upper brackets/cushions (A), and the brackets (B).
38. Bulkhead - Move
1. Disconnect the connectors (A).
2. Remove the harness clamps (B).
3. Remove the bulkhead (A).
39. Radiator Assembly
1. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A).
2. Disconnect the lower radiator hose (A) and the CVTF cooler hoses (B).
3. Remove the harness clamp (C).
4. Pull up the radiator assembly.
40. A/C Compressor Assembly - Move
1. Disconnect the connector, then remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses. Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively.
NOTE: Hang the A/C compressor with a wire tie.
41. Steering Joint Cover
1. Remove the steering joint cover (A).
42. Steering Column Lower Slide Shaft - Hold
1. Set the steering column to the center tilt position, and to the center telescopic position.
2. Hold the lower slide shaft (A) on the column with a piece of wire (B) between the joint yoke (C) of the lower slide shaft and joint yoke (D) of the upper shaft to prevent the lower slider shaft from pulling out.
43. Steering Joint Bolt - Loosen
1. Loosen the steering joint bolt (A).
44. Steering Wheel Hold
1. Center the steering wheel spoke angle.
2. Install a commercially available steering wheel holder tool (A).
45. Steering Joint - Disconnection
1. Remove the steering joint bolt (A).
2. Disconnect the steering joint (B) from the pinion shaft.
NOTE:
* If the center guide (C) is in place and has not moved, leave it in place.
* If the center guide has come off, discard it.
46. Under-Floor TWC
1. Remove the under-floor TWC.
47. Front Stabilizer Ball Joint Both - Disconnection, Lower Arm Side
1. Remove the flange nut (A) while holding the respective joint pin (B) with a hex wrench (C).
2. Remove the stabilizer link (D).
48. Ball Joint - Removal
NOTICE:
Always use a ball joint remover to disconnect a ball joint. Do not strike the housing or any other part of the ball joint connection to disconnect it.
1. Install a hex nut (A) or the ball joint thread protector.
NOTE: When using a hex nut, make sure the nut is flush with the ball joint pin end to prevent damage to the threaded end of the ball joint pin.
2. Apply grease to the ball joint remover on the areas shown (A).
3. Install the ball joint remover as shown.
NOTE:
* Fasten the safety chain (A) securely to a suspension arm or the subframe (B).
* Making sure not to damage the ball joint boot.
4. Tighten the pressure bolt until the ball joint pin pops loose from the ball joint connecting hole.
NOTE: Do not use pneumatic or electric tools on the pressure bolt.
5. Remove the ball joint remover.
6. Remove the hex nut or the ball joint thread protector.
7. Pull the ball joint out of the ball joint connecting hole.
49. Tie-Rod End Ball Joint - Disconnection, Both Side
1. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the tie-rod end ball joint.
2. Remove the nut (B).
3. Disconnect the tie-rod end ball joint.
NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover.
50. Lower Arm Both - Disconnection Knuckle Side
1. Remove the flange bolt and the self-locking nuts on both sides.
2. Separate the lower arm using a pry bar on both sides.
51. Front Driveshaft Both - Spindle Nut
1. Pry up the stake (A) on the spindle nut (B) on both sides.
2. Remove the spindle nut on both sides.
52. Front Driveshaft Both - Disconnection Outboard Side
1. Separate the outboard joint from the front hub using a soft face hammer on both sides.
2. Pull the knuckle outward.
3. Separate the outboard joint from the front hub on both sides.
53. Front Driveshaft Both - Disconnection Inboard Side
1. Left driveshaft: Pry the inboard joint (A) from the differential using a pry bar. Remove the driveshaft as an assembly.
NOTE:
* Do not pull on the driveshaft (B), or the inboard joint may come apart. Pull the inboard joint straight out to avoid damaging the oil seal.
* Be careful not to damage the oil seal or the end of the inboard joint using the pry bar.
2. Right driveshaft: Pry the inboard joint (A) from the differential using the pry bar.
NOTE:
* Do not pull on the driveshaft (B), or the inboard joint may come apart.
* Be careful not to damage the oil seal or the end of the inboard using the pry bar.
3. Remove the driveshaft as an assembly.
4. Right driveshaft: Remove the set ring (C) from the inboard joint.
54. Lower The Vehicle On The Lift
1. Lower the vehicle on the lift.
55. Bulkhead - Temporary Installation
1. Install the front bulkhead.
56. Engine Support Hanger Peripheral Assembly
1. Disconnect the connectors (A).
2. Disconnect the breather hose (B).
3. Remove the bolt (C) securing the EVAP canister purge valve bracket (D).
4. Remove the bolt (E) securing the harness holder (F).
5. Remove the harness holder from its bracket (G).
6. Install the universal lifting eyelet to the EVAP canister purge valve bracket bolt hole (A) with an 8 x 1.25 mm bolt (B) and a spacer (C).
NOTE: Select a spacer that is long enough that the universal lifting eyelet does not interfere with the surrounding parts.
57. Engine Support Hanger
1. Install the engine support hanger onto the vehicle as shown, and attach the hook (A) to the slotted hole in the universal lifting eyelet.
2. Tighten the wing nut (B) by hand, and lift and support the engine.
NOTE:
* Be careful when working around the windshield.
* Be careful not to damage the hood opener cable when installing the engine support hanger at the front bulkhead.
58. Raise The Vehicle On The Lift
1. Raise the vehicle on the lift.
59. Front Subframe Support
1. Attach the subframe adapter to the front subframe by looping the belt (A) over the front of the front subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C).
2. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.
60. Fuel Fill Cap
1. Install the fuel fill cap.
