Audio System Symptom Troubleshooting - USB device does not function

USB device does not function

NOTE:
* Check the vehicle battery condition first Battery Test.
* Check the USB's specifications:
- Mass-storage class ready digital audio player with USB 2.0 port
- More than 256 MB storage space
- Supports MP3, WMA, and AAC (encoded with the iTunes) files, DRM files are not supported

* Not all players and player functions work with the USB adapter. Please see the Owner's Manual for more information. Always test the customer's USB device in a known-good vehicle of the same year and trim (if possible). Technologies change and are updated frequently which may result in USB devices working in newer vehicles, but not in older vehicles of the same model.
* If Unsupported Ver appears on the display, the vehicle is OK, there is a software problem with the USB device.
* Check the connectors for poor connections or loose terminals.

1. Determine possible failure area (GA_BUS line, others):

Determine possible failure area (GA_BUS line, others)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-2. Turn on the audio system, and press the AUDIO button to select the USB mode.
NOTE: Do not connect the USB device.

Is No Data displayed in the multi-information display unit?
-YES- Go to step 2.
-NO- Go to Audio system information does not display on the multi-information display unit troubleshooting Audio System Information Does Not Display On The Multi-Information Display (With Navigation).

2. Determine possible failure area (USB device, others):

Determine possible failure area (USB device, others)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Connect the customer's USB device to a known-good vehicle (same year/trim) that is equipped with a USB adapter, and check the USB device operation.

Does the USB device work properly in the known-good vehicle?
-YES- Go to step 3.
-NO- See the Owner's Manual for details about the USB device requirements and approved file types.

3. Problem verification:

-1. On the customer's vehicle, connect the customer's USB device to the USB port located in the center console.

-2. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-3. Check the USB device operation in the customer's vehicle.

Does the USB device work properly in the customer's vehicle?
-YES- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Inspect the connectors of the USB device, USB port and USB adapter for wear.
-NO- The failure is duplicated, go to step 4.

4. Determine possible failure area (USB line, multi-information display unit):

Determine possible failure area (USB line, multi-information display unit)
-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. On the customer's vehicle, disconnect the customer's USB device from the USB port.

-3. Disconnect the following connector.





-4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.


















Is there continuity?
-YES- Replace the multi-information display unit Multi-Information Display Unit Removal And Installation.
-NO- Go to step 5.

5. USB adapter check:

USB adapter check
-1. Disconnect the following connector.





-2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.


















Is there continuity?
-YES- Replace the USB harness, then recheck.
-NO- Replace the USB adapter, then recheck.
