Brake Pedal Position Switch Signal Circuit Troubleshooting

1. Brake pedal position switch signal check 1:

-1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

-2. Check the BRAKE SWITCH in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Does it indicate OFF?
-YES- Go to step 2.
-NO- Inspect the brake pedal position switch Adjustments.

2. Brake pedal position switch signal check 2:

-1. Press the brake pedal while checking the BRAKE SWITCH in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Does it change to ON?
-YES- The brake pedal position switch signal circuit (BKSW line) is OK.
-NO- Go to step 3.

3. Shorted wire check (STOP_SW line):

-1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

-2. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.

-3. Disconnect the following connectors.





-4. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.









Is there continuity?
-YES- Repair a short in the STOP_SW wire between the ECM (A13) and the No. A15 (15 A) fuse. Also, replace the No. A15 (15 A) fuse.
-NO- The STOP_SW wire is not shorted. Go to step 4.

4. Open wire check (STOP_SW line):

-1. Connect terminals A and B with a jumper wire.









-2. Check for continuity between test points 1 and 2.









Is there continuity?
-YES- The STOP_SW wire is OK. Repair an open in the +B_STOP wire between the brake pedal position switch and the No. A17 (15 A) fuse. Inspect the brake pedal position switch Adjustments.
-NO- Repair an open in the STOP_SW wire between the ECM (A13) and the brake pedal position switch.
