DTC Troubleshooting: P16E2
DTC P16E2:
PGM-FI-ACG LIN Communication Error
NOTE:
- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
- Check for loose terminal on the alternator (+B terminal). If the alternator +B terminal was poor connection or loose terminal, the DTC P16E2 will be stored.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
4. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
5. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P16E2 indicated?
YES -
Go to step 6.
NO -
Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM.
6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Disconnect the alternator 1P connector.
8. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
9. Measure the voltage between alternator 1P connector terminal and body ground.
Is there any voltage?
YES -
Go to step 15.
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
11. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
12. Disconnect PCM connector B (49P).
13. Check for continuity between alternator 1P connector terminal and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair a short in the wire between the PCM (B45) and the alternator, then go to step 17.
NO -
Go to step 14.
14. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal B45 and alternator 1P connector terminal.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 22.
NO -
Repair an open in the wire between the PCM (B45) and the alternator, then go to step 17.
15. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
16. Replace the alternator Removal and Replacement.
17. Reconnect all connectors.
18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
19. Reset the PCM with the HDS.
20. Do the PCM idle learn procedure PCM Idle Learn Procedure.
21. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P16E2 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM, then go to step 1. If the alternator was replaced, replace the PCM Service and Repair, then go to step 17.
NO -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
22. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software Service and Repair, or substitute a known-good PCM.
23. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P16E2 indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the alternator and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck.
NO -
If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM PCM Update. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs are indicated, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.
