Non-Compliance Recall: VSA System Software Update

BACKGROUND

During NHTSA validation testing, the 2012-13 Fit Sport did not fully comply with federal safety standard FMVSS 126.

CUSTOMER NOTIFICATION

Owners of affected vehicles will receive a notification of this non-compliance recall starting in May 2013.

Before doing work on a vehicle, verify its eligibility by doing an iN VIN status inquiry.

Some vehicles affected by this campaign may be in your new or used vehicle inventory. Repair these vehicles before they are sold.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Update the VSA modular-control unit software, then do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization.

SOFTWARE INFORMATION

NOTE:
Unnecessary or incorrect repairs resulting from a failure to update the MVCI or HDS are not covered under warranty.

MVCI Control Module (CM) update:

Application version 3.01.27 or later Database Update 16 April 2013 or later

HDS Software Version:

3.009.011 or later

Before beginning the repair, make sure that both the HDS and the MVCI are updated as listed above.

Do only the update listed in this service bulletin.

Make sure the MVCI indicates the applicable program ID listed below (or a later program ID) as the Recommended Update when the update begins.





If the MVCI displays This vehicle does not need an update at this time" during the update, the software for this service bulletin is already installed.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Connect a fully charged jumper battery to the vehicle, then update the VSA modular-control unit software using the MVCI. Refer to Service Bulletin 01-023, Updating Control Units/Modules.

NOTE:
If you see the message This vehicle does not need an update at this time." connect the HDS, select VSA, then select Data List. You must make sure the program ID in the vehicle is 57114-TK6-A21 (M/T) or 57114-TK6-A31 (A/T) or later. If it is not, you need to update the HDS and the MVCI, then do the update again.

2. Connect the HDS to the vehicle, then do the VSA sensor neutral position memorization.

^ Select Honda Systems.

^ Select VSA.

^ Select Adjustment.

^ Select All Sensors, then follow the on-screen prompts.

^ Exit the HDS.

^ Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

^ Disconnect the HDS and the MVCI.

^ Start the engine and make sure the VSA OFF indicator comes on for a few seconds, then goes out.
