Body - Water Leak Into Rear Cargo Area

Water Leak: Cargo Area Wet or Damp

SYMPTOM

The rear cargo and/or spare tire well areas are wet or damp.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

The AM/FM antenna base nut may loosen, which allows water under the seal.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the AM/FM antenna base and apply Konishi Bond to the seal prior to installation.

Antenna Base:
P/N 39152-TF0-E01

Clip (pillar garnish, two required):
P/N 91561-TA0-A11

REQUIRED MATERIALS

Konishi Bond:
(One tube will complete 10 repairs)
P/N 08713-0008

Hondalock 1 (threadlock):
(One tube will complete 50 repairs)
P/N 08713-0001

REPAIR PROCEDURE

The following service manual procedures have been used in full or in part within this service bulletin. For more detail on these procedures, and torque specifications for some components, refer to the appropriate service manual, or view them online.

^ Battery Terminal Disconnection and Reconnection

^ Driver's Dashboard Undercover Removal/Installation

^ Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

^ Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Door Areas

^ Tailgate Weatherstrip Replacement

^ Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Rear Side Area

^ Front Individual Map Light Test/Replacement

^ Ceiling Light Test/Replacement

^ Sunvisor Removal/Installation

^ Grab Handle Removal/Installation

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure.

2. Remove the following parts completely or partially as needed, then lower the headliner.

^ Driver's dashboard undercover

^ A-pillar trim (both sides)

^ Kick panels (both sides)

^ Front door sill trim (both sides, as needed)

^ Rear door sill trim (both sides, as needed)

^ Front door inner seal (as needed)

^ Rear door inner seal (as needed)

^ B-pillar upper/lower trim (both sides)

^ Tailgate weatherstrip (as needed)

^ Cargo area side trim panel (as needed)

^ Quarter pillar trim (both sides)

^ Individual map light

^ Ceiling light

^ Sunvisors (both sides) Grab handles (four places)





3. Remove the antenna base.

^ Remove the antenna from the antenna base.

^ Detach the clip.

^ Disconnect the connector.

^ Remove the nut from the AM/FM antenna base, then remove the base.

4. Clean the exterior roof panel with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol. After cleaning, keep oil, grease, and water from getting on the surface.





5. Cut the Konishi Bond applicator tip to a diameter of 4 mm.





6. Apply Konishi Bond evenly and without gaps between the two ribs on the new antenna base.

7. Apply Hondalock 1 thread lock to the antenna base threaded area and place it into position on the roof. Install the nut, and torque it to 4.4 N.m (3.2 lb-ft).

NOTE:

^ Do not overtighten.

^ Immediately remove any adhesive that oozes out from under the antenna base with a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol.





8. Reconnect the connector and reattach the clip.





9. Install the antenna onto the new antenna base.

10. Reinstall the headliner.

NOTE:
Be careful not to crease the headliner. Inspect the removed parts for damage. Damaged interior trim parts may cause the side curtain airbags to deploy improperly, possibly causing injury. Replace damaged items if you find any of these problems.

^ Any crease or tears in the headliner.

^ Any crease or breakage in the grab handles.

^ Any damage around the grab handle holes or sunvisor holes in the headliner.

^ Any bends or cracks in the sunvisor stay shaft.

^ Any cracks in the sunvisor base.

^ Any cracks or breakage in the vanity mirror base.

^ Any clip bases that have come off the headliner.

^ Any clips that are damaged or stress-whitened.

11. Make sure that both sides of the headliner are securely attached to the body, and that the headliner overlaps the trim pieces correctly.

12. Reinstall the following items:

^ Grab handles (four places)

^ Sunvisors (both sides)

^ Ceiling light

^ Individual map light

^ Quarter pillar trim (both sides)

^ Cargo area side trim panel

^ Tailgate weatherstrip

^ B-pillar upper/lower trim (both sides)

^ Rear door inner seal

^ Front door inner seal

^ Rear door sill trim (both sides)

^ Front door sill trim (both sides)

^ Kick panels (both sides)

^ A-pillar trim (both sides)

> Clip, garnish (1) for each side

^ Driver's dashboard undercover

13. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.
