SYMPTOM

The floor carpet wears prematurely.

POSSIBLE CAUSE

Due to continuous use, the floor carpet rips, tears, develops holes, and shows signs of excessive wear.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the floor carpet.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

NOTE:

SRS components are located in this area. Review the SRS locations and the precautions and procedures in the service manual before doing the repair.

^ Use gloves.

^ Don't damage, wrinkle, or twist the carpet.

^ Don't damage the dashboard or interior trim pieces.

^ Use the KTC trim tool set to avoid damaging components during removal.

^ This following service manual procedures have been used in full or in part within this service bulletin. For more detail on these procedures, and torque specifications for some components, refer to the appropriate service manual, or view them online.

- Center Console Removal/Installation

- Front Seat Removal/Installation

- Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Door Areas

- Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Pillar Areas

- Rear Seat Leg Guide Replacement

- Interior Trim Removal/Installation - Rear Side Area

1. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure, and wait 3 minutes before beginning work.

2. Remove the following items:

^ Floormats (if equipped)

^ Center console

^ Front seats (both sides)

^ Kick panels (both sides)

^ Front door sill trim (both sides)

^ Front door inner seal (as needed)

^ B-pillar lower trim (both sides)

^ Rear door sill trim (both sides)

^ Rear door inner seal (as needed)

^ Rear seat leg guide cover (both sides)

^ Tie-down hooks (both sides)





3. Pry up at the gap to detach the clips and pins, then remove the footrest.





4. Detach the clips and release the hook and loop fasteners that fasten the carpet to the bottom of the rear seat-backs, then pull the carpet out from under both cargo-area side trim panels.





5. To remove the carpet, first cut it in the area shown below, and pull it back from under the dashboard. Then pull the seat wire harnesses out through the holes in the carpet and remove the carpet.





6. Install the new carpet:

^ Don't damage, wrinkle, or twist the carpet.

^ Route the seat wire harnesses correctly.

^ Replace the clips with new ones if they are damaged or stress-whitened.

^ Cut the carpet in the area shown below.

^ Slip the carpet under both cargo-area side trim panels properly.

^ Push the hook and loop fasteners and clips into place securely.

^ Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure.

^ Slip the slit in the carpet over the hooks on the rear heater upper duct.

7. Reinstall the following items:

^ Tie-down hooks (both sides)

^ Rear seat leg guide covers (both sides)

^ Rear door inner seal (as needed)

^ Rear door sill trim (both sides)

^ B-pillar lower trim (both sides)

^ Front door inner seal (as needed)

^ Front door sill trim (both sides)

^ Kick panels (both sides)

^ Front seats (both sides)

^ Center console





8. If originally equipped, re-install and place the driver's side mat over the anchors.

9. Turn the knobs on the anchors to secure the driver's side floor mat.





10. If originally equipped, re-install the passenger's side floor mat.





11. If originally equipped, re-install the right and left rear floor mats. Insert the tab from each floor mat under the sill trim.
