Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P1448 (63): Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) Module Fan Problem

General Description
To manage the temperature of the motor power inverter (MPI) module, the DC-DC converter, and the battery module, the integrated motor assist (IMA) system is equipped with an intelligent power unit (IPU) module fan. When a malfunction occurs in the IPU module fan, the motor assist is unable to regenerate and the IMA system is shut down because the module temperature increases. A malfunction in the IPU module fan is detected to avoid problems caused by overheating. If the IPU module fan is functioning normally, when the MCM operates the IPU module fan, it should be operated within a specified speed range. The MCM compares the actual IPU module fan speed to the IPU module fan duty cycle, and if the actual speed does not reach a specified value, the MCM detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
The actual IPU module fan speed is 1,748 rpm or less for at least 10 seconds.

Confirmation Procedure with the HDS
Do the IPU MODULE FAN DRIVE in the INSPECTION MENU with the HDS.

Driving Pattern
1. Reset the MCM. (Disconnect the 12 V battery terminal once and reconnect it.)
2. Start the engine, and hold the engine speed to between 3,500 - 4,000 rpm (in P or N).
3. Confirm that the air is flowing from the IPU module fan duct.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected during the first drive cycle, a Pending DTC is stored in the MCM memory. If the malfunction returns in the next (second) drive cycle, the MIL comes on and a Confirmed DTC and the freeze data are stored.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
