Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P1586 (23): Battery Current Sensor Signal Malfunction

General Description
When the high voltage contactor is turned on, motor power inverter (MPI) module current and battery module current is monitored on the same line across the DC-DC converter that supplies power to the 12 V battery. Therefore, when the MPI module current and the battery module current values are compared and a difference of a specified value has occurred for a specified time, a malfunction is detected and a DTC is stored.

Enable Conditions

Malfunction Threshold
The difference between the MPI module current and the battery module current is 35 A or more, or -18 A or less for at least 1.0 second.

Driving Pattern
1. Start the engine, and drive the vehicle in D at vehicle speed 25 mph (40 km/h) or more.
2. Keep the vehicle speed 25 mph (40 km/h) or more with the brake pedal pressed to switch ON the brake pedal position switch for at least 2 seconds.

- Drive the vehicle in this manner only if the traffic regulations and ambient conditions allow.

Diagnosis Details

Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the MCM memory.

Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
