Driver's Window Does Not Open or Close Properly

SYMPTOM

The driver's window doesn't open or close properly. In some cases, it may be dislodged from the run channel.

PROBABLE CAUSE

The window regulator may not allow enough adjustment to properly fit the vehicle.

CORRECTIVE ACTION

Replace the driver's window regulator.

REPAIR PROCEDURE





1. Carefully pull on the driver's door mirror cover to release the hooks and detach the clip, then remove the door mirror cover.





2. Remove the pull pocket cap, and remove the screw from the driver's door panel.





3. starting at the bottom edge of the driver's inside door panel, detach the clips that are just above the marks on the edge of the panel using a commercially available trim panel remover. Start at the rear of the door, then pull the door panel upward.





4. While holding the door panel away from the door, disconnect the power window switch connector.





5. Remove the power window master switch from the door panel, and set the door panel aside.

6. Reconnect the power window master switch to the door to be able to do the following steps. If the glass has already fallen out of the channel, lift it up out of the door and go to step 8.

7. Raise the window to the fully closed position.





8. Remove the pull pocket base bracket.





9. Disconnect the power door lock actuator connector, and detach the door harness clips.

10. Remove the plug caps, then peel back or remove the plastic cover as needed.

NOTE:
If the plastic cover is damaged or torn, replace it with a new one.





11. Remove the screw from the top of the speaker, then disconnect the speaker and set it aside.

12. Lower the window if it is still in the door to allow access to the regulator bolts.





13. Remove the two bolts that attach the window glass to the regulator. Carefully remove the window from the window opening if not already removed.

NOTE:
Take care to prevent the window from dropping inside the door.

14. Disconnect the regulator power connector from the motor.





15. Remove the four motor bracket bolts, the two regulator nuts, then remove the regulator assembly through the opening.





16. Remove the motor from the original regulator and transfer it to the new regulator.

17. Inspect the run channels for damage and replace them if necessary.





18. Reinstall the regulator/motor assembly into the door and tighten the nuts and bolts to 9.8 N*m (7.2 lb-ft).





19. Install the window, pushing the glass against the rear run channel, then tighten the glass mounting bolts to 9.4 N*m (6.9 lb-ft).

20. Loosen the lower front run channel bolt (located to the right of the front speaker opening), and with the window in the down position, push the run channel into the window and then tighten the bolt to 7.4 N*m (5.5 lb-ft).

21. With the window in the down position, open and close the door several times. Make sure that you use force to close the door to verify that the window stays in the run channel.





22. Connect the speaker wire, and reinstall the speaker into the door.

23. Reinstall the plastic cover, and make sure that it is fully sealed.





24. Reconnect the power door lock actuator connector, and reinstall the plug caps and the door harness





25. Reinstall the pull pocket base bracket.





26. Disconnect the power window master switch, reinstall the door panel, reinstall the power window master switch, and reconnect the power window switch connector.





27. Reinstall the screw, and the pull pocket cap.





28. Reinstall the door mirror cover.

29. Reset the window auto-up/down function.

30. Do the POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT RESET procedure.

POWER WINDOW CONTROL UNIT RESET

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Use the power window DOWN switch to move the power window all the way down.





3. Open the driver's door.

NOTE:
Steps 4 through 7 must be done within 5 seconds of each other.

4. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

5. Push and hold the power window DOWN switch.

6. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

7. Release the power window DOWN switch.

8. Repeat steps 4 through 7 four more times.

9. Wait at least 1 second.

10. Confirm that AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN do not work. If AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN work, go back to step 1.

11. Use the power window DOWN switch to move the power window all the way down.

12. Pull up and hold the driver's window UP switch until the window reaches the fully closed position, then continue to hold the switch for at least 1 second.

13. Confirm that the power window control unit is reset by using the driver's window AUTO UP and AUTO DOWN functions. If the window still does not work in AUTO, go to step 1 and repeat the procedure, paying close attention to the 5-second time limit between steps.

NOTE:
You may have to repeat the procedure several times before it resets.

14. If the window still does not work, refer to the master switch input test.
