DIAGNOSIS
Test-drive the vehicle to determine the location(s) of the wind noise.
^ If there is wind noise at the driver's or front passengers door mirror, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A.
^ (V6 models only) If there is wind noise at the upper side window area at ear level, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE C and D.
^ If there is wind noise at the upper side window area at ear level, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE D.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A
There is wind noise at the power mirror and/or the upper side window area at ear level.
1. Gently pull up on the weatherstrip on top of the door frame near the door mirror.
2. Look in the oval hole for the run channel nub.
^ If the nub is within the oval hole, the run channel is set properly. Go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
^ If the nub is not within the oval hole, carefully pull down on the window run channel in the corner area and reposition the run channel in the window frame so that the nub sits within the oval hole.
REPAIR PROCEDURE B
There is wind noise at the side door mirror.
1. Remove the tweeter trim, and check for missing sealer.
2. Check if there is sealer in the indicated area.
^ If there is sealer in the indicated area, reinstall the speaker tweeter trim.
^ If there is no sealer in the indicated area, cut a 10 mm x 10 mm piece of EPT Sealer, remove the backing and fold it in half. Insert it into the area using a trim tool SILTRIMTL1O (or equivalent). Reinstall the tweeter trim.
REPAIR PROCEDURE C
(V6 models only) There is wind noise at the upper side of the window area (B-pillar) at ear level.
1. Check for a gap in the run channel at the middle of the front door sash outer trim.
- If there is a gap present, go to step 2
- If there is no gap present, REPAIR PROCEDURE C does not apply. Continue with your troubleshooting.
NOTE:
If a gap is present, it is likely caused by flashing material under the sash.
2. Remove the tweeter trim.
3. Remove the front door panel.
4. Remove the door mirror.
5. Release the retaining clips from the outer bottom molding, then pull the molding up.
6. Pull away the door weatherstrip in the top corner.
7. Lightly pull away the top chrome molding, just enough to remove the screw, detach the clip, then remove the door sash trim.
8. Clean the area with alcohol/degreaser, then install the new door sash trim.
9. Reinstall the screw holding the door sash trim.
10. Reattach the retaining clips holding the outer bottom molding.
11. Reinstall the side door mirror.
12. Reinstall the door panel.
13. Reinstall the tweeter trim.
REPAIR PROCEDURE D
There is wind noise at the upper side window area (B-pillar) at ear level:
1. Open the window.
2. Remove the window run channel from the upper part of the window frame.
3. Use alcohol/degreaser to clean the run channel groove near the B-pillar.
4. Apply adhesion promoter to the run channel groove near the B-pillar.
5. Cut a 3 mm x 3 mm x 400 mm piece of EPT Sealer. Apply it in the groove of the run channel. Start in the upper corner and install the EPT Sealer down the window run channel. Center the sealer along the hash marks on the run channel.
6. Reinstall the window run channel, starting in the upper corner.
7. Install the window run channel near the B-pillar by first attaching the outside lip, and then by attaching the inside lip.
8. Force the Y-corner molding into the corner, and attach the run channel along the top of the window frame.
9. Push the run channel up against the door sash trim to set the EPT Sealer, then check for any gaps or for visibility of the EPT Sealer.
